Play-Based Learning: Fun Activities that Strengthen Creativity and Teach while Entertaining

Dramatic Play :

Dramatic play provides children with the opportunity to imagine, create and explore through acting out and assigning various roles. While it is highly entertaining for them, they are also learning about situations and characters beyond the scope of their everyday lives. Through dramatic play, our preschool students develop their imaginations and strengthen vital skills such as word comprehension, use of vocabulary, abstract thinking, and working successfully within a group, as well as task completion.

Our dramatic play activities encourage children to bring to life various storybook characters, imaginary characters and characters drawn from real life. Such activities boost children’s development in many ways, including :

Expanded vocabulary : As children act out their roles, they learn to choose words and phrases that best fit their characters. They also become accustomed to explaining their characters and the scenarios they are acting out, helping to further expand and enrich their vocabularies. They communicate with others in their group within dramatic play, ensuring that they become comfortable with idea expression.

Sharpened cognitive skills : In order to create characters and scenarios within dramatic play, children are encouraged to think and recall observed facts. They use a variety of abstract thinking and problem solving methods to recreate situations and characters they have previously seen.

They develop their creativity through imagining the feelings, thoughts and actions of their characters and selecting the appropriate props for their roles. Literacy and math skills are also strengthened through dramatic play activities involving words or numbers.

Reinforced social skills : Working with other children within the framework of dramatic play strengthens and reinforces children’s sense of community as well as their ability to cooperate, listen to the ideas of others and fully express their own ideas.

Dramatic play gives children the opportunity to explore both their own imaginative abilities and aspects of the world they live in. Through creating their roles, working with peers and presenting their efforts, they also gain confidence in their own abilities of expression.
