Teaching Methods

HighScope Preschool

Our Values : We believe that children respond best to the active, positive approach of HighScope learning. Children thrive when allowed to share a certain level of control in their education with teachers and are able to learn not only from planning and carrying out actions but also from assessing these actions afterwards. Our HighScope preschool program provides young learners with an inspiring, intelligence-building curriculum, encompassing the following 8 areas :

  • Approaches to learning
  • Social and emotional development
  • Physical development and health
  • Language, literacy, and communication
  • Mathematics
  • Creative arts
  • Science and technology
  • Social studies

Our Goals & Methods : Working within the framework of a HighScope education, our preschool curriculum focuses on allowing children to gain skills and information through active participatory learning. Children experience academic subjects, ideas, experiences, objects and events first-hand and are able to grow and learn from these experiences. Teachers provide them with a variety of learning materials and tools as well as an organized learning environment and daily routine. The classroom has multiple learning and activity zones and children are encouraged to fully utilize them throughout the well-structured school day.

They are also given the opportunity to plan, carry out and review their own activities in small groups, instilling in them an understanding of cooperation with peers, a habit of completing tasks and an ability to assess their own actions. Children’s social interactions are also enhanced by learning calm, logical and useful conflict resolution strategies.

Benefits : Teachers work closely with children, building strong bonds while assessing them throughout the year and noting how they perform in the 8 listed content areas most important to early learning. Through practicing expression of their preferences and ideas, having hands-on learning experiences and working well with others, children enhance their mental development and gain academic, emotional, social and physical benefits.
