Social Studies : Learning About The World Around Us

Our preschool social studies curriculum helps children to observe and learn important lessons about their classroom community and the broader world around them. Using activities, reading, storytelling and discussion, children are able to understand social studies concepts such as:

Community : Children learn about the concept of community through lessons about different types of communities. They observe and understand that individuals hold various roles within communities such as families, schools and neighborhoods. As children learn that they are part of their classroom community, they see and value their roles in shared discussions and decision-making within the classroom. This knowledge helps children to make sense of social structures and to understand their world.

Diversity : Through observing the differences between themselves and others, children are able to learn and understand that people have differing characteristics, roles and interests.

The broader world : Through activities, storytelling, reading, presentations and discussions, children learn valuable lessons about the wider world around them. These lessons include geographical learning about their environment and surroundings as well ecological learning about nature, the needs of the planet and the value of caring for their environment.

Through our social studies curriculum, children learn essential concepts and are furnished with an understanding about their communities and the greater world around them.
