Science : Fostering an understanding of the natural world through observation and simple experimentation

Children are curious about the natural world and our preschool science curriculum uses creative exploration and observation activities to build on that interest and impart valuable lessons. Children take part in simple experiments and experience demonstrations, learning fascinating information about everything from plants to animals. There is a focus on allowing them to be fully involved in supervised, hands-on science activities such as observing the progress of growing plants by planting their own seeds or learning about science concepts such as temperature by experiencing frozen and melting items. In this way, they are able to see that science is a part of daily life.

Because children are best able to internalize their observations through discussion, they learn to describe and share what they have seen and are encouraged to freely ask questions.Fiction and non-fiction books that focus on plants and animals are also incorporated into reading time, to allow children greater familiarity with the natural world around them.
